The trapping sites within the solute cluster (shown in blue) determine the N transient states, while the perimeter states determine the absorbing states. The former are associated with the A blocks of the matrix and the latter with the null blocks. At this stage, all perimeter sites are treated as a single absorbing state with an index of N + 1.
