(a) A cluster of B solute atoms within a bulk of A atoms is sketched. In insets (b,c,d) a typical “flicker” is illustrated. It results in having the vacancy (V) returning at its initial position many times. This is due to B–V exchanges being far more likely than A-V ones (more complex flickers are possible (e)) as reflected by their respective transition rates Γ.
