Schematic representation of the importance sampling strategy implemented as a variance reduction technique in the kinetic algorithm in TRIPOLI-4. The scheme is applied to a kinetic simulation with two time steps, considering two different values R_i and R_i + 1 for the importance ratio, one for each time step.
