Neutron flux obtained on the Flattop-Pu benchmark with the new kinetic algorithm, juxtaposed to the evolution predicted by the point-kinetics equations. The transient is initiated by enlarging the internal Pu sphere, and it consists of a positive reactivity insertion of $2.2 on a system initially kept in its critical state for 1 μs. Different durations of the super-critical state are investigated, namely (i) 24 μs, (ii) 34 μs, (iii) 44 μs, (iv) 51 μs. The evolution of the importance values and the importance ratio used in the new importance-sampling scheme is also presented, demonstrating the highly adaptive and dynamic nature of this new variance reduction strategy.
