Call for papers - EPJ N Topical Issue on Liquid-gas and liquid-vapour flows: theory, simulation and experiments

Submissions are invited for a Topical Issue of EPJ N on Liquid-gas and liquid-vapour flows: theory, simulation and experiments.

Multiphase liquid-vapour flows appear in natural and in a large variety of industrial processes in various forms.

These flows feature multi-scale, multi-physics, unsteady, turbulent and essentially non-linear phenomena: vapour nucleation, bubble growth and detachment, the existence of deformable and moving interfaces that support fluid properties discontinuities, bubble break-up and coalescence, flow regime transition, shock formation, turbulence, and fluid-structure interaction.

The accurate prediction of these flows in the real design is a crucial challenge for the industry. Significant advances have been made for reproducing the complete physical similarity focused on developing dedicated methods and tools in the realization of a full up-scale approach. Many open challenges towards the accurate prediction of these flows in the complexity of the industrial systems are still to be addressed.

This special issue aims to review the current state-of-the-art findings in analytical, numerical, modelling and experimental research, to improve the basic understanding of liquid-gas and liquid-vapour flows. Its goal is to spread new modelling techniques, innovative experimental methods and important insights towards a better understanding of two-phase physics in realistic configurations.

This special issue is open to a broad spectrum of modelling, numerical or experimental investigations. Communications emphasizing the replicability of results coming from laboratory operating conditions to industrial applications (e.g. similarity, scaling, transposition…) are encouraged and will be highly appreciated.

The application field is not limited to the nuclear one; other fields of investigation are welcome. We invite contributors to communicate their intention to submit manuscripts for this Topical Issue to the Guest Editors as soon as possible. It will also be appreciated if you can provide the tentative title of the paper and a short abstract whenever possible. We refer you to the journal’s instructions for authors to provide you with some guidance on how to prepare your article.

The full manuscripts should be submitted before the deadline directly to the EPJN Editorial Office at https://articlestatus.edpsciences.org/is/epjn/home.php .

Submission Deadline: April 30, 2021.
