We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing, in July 2025, of Gilles Moutiers, Editor-in-Chief of EPJ N – Nuclear Sciences & Technologies.

Gilles Moutiers was an accomplished scientist and a recognized authority in the field of physical chemistry, known for his rigor, pragmatism, and intellectual integrity. His long and distinguished career at the CEA was marked by numerous scientific contributions and, in recent years, by his service within the Scientific Directorate of the Energy Department.

As Editor-in-Chief, Gilles was dedicated to strengthening the influence and reputation of EPJ N, particularly in the field of chemistry, his area of expertise. Under his leadership, the journal published Topical Issues from several major conferences, contributing to its visibility and impact within the community.

Beyond his professional excellence, Gilles was esteemed for his personal qualities: gentle yet firm, discreet yet fully engaged, fair and principled. His deep faith lent an additional dimension to his character and interactions.

The EPJ N community has lost a valued colleague and a remarkable individual. His contribution and presence will be remembered with respect and gratitude.
